Hai Chau

City centre, riverside

The urban core on the west bank of the Han river — offices, markets, restaurants and the city's bridges. The most Vietnamese-feeling place to live, and handy to everything except the beach.

Who it suits

People who want city life over beach life: first-timers who like a buzz, and anyone working or studying centrally.

The feel

Dense and energetic, with the best mix of local and international food, night markets and the riverside. Less green and further from the sand than the beach side.

Prices & value

Mid-priced overall, though modern serviced studios in the centre can match or beat beachside one-bedrooms (around 10 million ₫). Plenty of older, cheaper local blocks too.

Getting around

Central and well-connected; the beach is a 10–15 minute ride east across a bridge.
